Michael Schenker made his 1971 Flying V legendary throughout the 1970s and 1980s with UFO, Scorpions, and the Michael Schenker Group, inspiring generations of hard rock and heavy metal guitarists along the way. His iconic Flying V was a 1971 Medallion Flying V fitted with a Maestro Vibrola. Originally finished in Cherry Red, it was later painted black, and eventually transformed into the instantly recognizable black-and-white design that became inseparably linked to Schenker’s image.
This is #48 of only 50 exact recreations of that 1971 Flying V, handcrafted by the expert luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. From the choice of woods and period-correct materials to the precise construction methods, tone, and feel, every detail has been faithfully reproduced. The result is an extraordinary replica that delivers an authentic ownership and playing experience, directly connected to Michael Schenker and a defining era in rock history.
Recreated from 3D scans of the original, this Custom Shop recreation features the iconic black and white paint scheme, Murphy Lab aging, and uncovered T-Top pickups. The Custom replica flight case includes a matching black and white COA as well as a #56 Medallion displayed on a commemorative mahogany block.
