We love them Gold here at GuitarPoint! There is something special about a Goldtop Les Paul from the 50s. Not two of them are alike, there are different shades of Gold caused by yellowing of the clear coat or “greening” caused by the reaction of the bronze powder with oxygen and humidity. We love the Custom Shop versions of the 1957 Goldtop but we wanted something different, a darker shade of Gold, the Gold you see on guitars that have been through some heavy playing, decades of gigs in smokey bars… but without artificial aging – a basic VOS version. The outcome is uber-cool: The “Darker Goldtop” – as trivial the official description sounds, it’s what we ordered. These guitars now come with maple top like a regular R7 (instead of the mahogany top of the first run and have a 1959 V1 Carmelita neck profile. They now have a Darkback and an uber-cool Gold stinger too! The pickups are unpotted Alnico 3 Custombuckers. This run is unique and has never been built like that before. We work closely with our long time friends at Gibson Custom to realize our goal to offer you the coolest Les Pauls in the market – world wide.
