Rare super early Fender Bass VI in Sunburst finish. Body and neck are dated 10/61 – this is the very first version with the wider pickups and 3 switches – only a little later in 1962 along with introducing the Jaguar guitar Fender switched to the “Jaguar-style” pickups with notched metal sides and an additional switch for “deep tone”. These very first version have a bit of a crude prototype look and were only available for a few months which makes them a rare collectibles. The bass underwent some modifications in its history, it has Schaller tuners (now Kluson replacements are installed), the bridge and middle pickup have been out and likely been rewound, the neck pickup cavity has slightly been enlarged and the finish has some touch ups – its well worn and played. But otherwise its original with original components, pots, switches and finish. Really cool piece of Fender history. Comes in non-original case. Neck is straight with low action!
