Super nice January 1960 Fender Stratocaster in Sunburst finish – the desired slabboard version of the Strat! This guitar has been shipped only 5-6 months after Fender released the rosewood fretboards and marks a new era of the Stratocaster – for many player those are the most desired models with the thicker “slab” rosewood. Its a super clean guitar with that deep and dark Sunburst finish – late 59/early 1960 transitional model without neck date (missing from 4-59 – mid 1960), late 1959 dated pots and 1/60 body date in tremolo cavity. It features a one-piece(!) alder body with beautiful grain. The finish is still vibrant and clean – perfect example of this period. The neck has a little bigger profile than the typical 59, but kind of similar in shape – a little thinner on the lower frets and growing towards the body. Not big but definitely comfortable. The bridge pickup appears to be rewound – the color of the wire is not matching with the other two and it reads a strong 6.85K (which sounds just amazing!). The tremolo arm thread has been re-drilled since the original arm broke inside the block (which is a common repair). This guitar has an interesting feature that we only found between 11/59 and 1/60 – the tremolo cavity has been enlarged in the factory to make the tremolo fit. We have seen the exact same tooling marks on other examples too. It has been refretted with 6130 fret wire. Otherwise its in original condition! Comes incl. original strap and original brown case with yellow plush.
