1959 Fender Stratocaster – Sunburst
Extraordinary Mid-1959 Fender Stratocaster – One of the First Rosewood Board / Greenguard Models
This is nothing short of a landmark instrument—one of the very first Fender Stratocasters to feature a rosewood fingerboard and the newly introduced “Greenguard” pickguard. A true transitional piece, this mid-1959 Strat bridges the gap between the classic ’50s specs and the changes ushered in at the end of the decade.
It retains the earlier ’54–’59 style body with “white guard” routing—lacking the extra recess for the 11-screw configuration—but is already fitted with a 9-screw nitrate “Greenguard,” making this an especially rare and short-lived configuration.
The guitar is in stunning condition overall. The hardware remains remarkably clean—almost as if untouched—and the finish has aged beautifully. It comes in its original 1959 tweed case with yellow plush interior, which, unlike most, is also in unusually clean and solid shape.
Weighing just 3.23 kg, this Strat is lightweight, resonant, and historically significant. The body is dated 5/59, and as expected for this period, there is no neck date.
A true collector’s piece and a rare gem from a pivotal moment in Fender’s history.
