1958 Gibson ES-335 T – Sunburst
The holy grail of the ES line… the first production year of the Gibson ES-335. The ES-335 was introduced in 1958 along with the Korina V and Explorer but other than the two futuristic guitars it kept being in the Gibson program ever since! Following its tradition in having the customer test run their product the first 335s had a too shallow neck angle (they came with 1/2 size ABR-1 bridges that usually broke or bent), a thinner laminated maple top and no binding on the neck. This is the second version – already with a corrected neck angle, full size ABR-1, neck binding but still the thin-top – which for many players and collectors is the best version of all 335 models. The thin-top to many is causing a better resonance and those guitars are referred to be the “burst killers” – which is good for your wallet since they are only 10% of the price. This beautiful guitar is in excellent condition – two things we need top mention: the bridge pickup has been wax potted and one of the two coils has been rewound. The cover is a golden cover that doesn’t belong to the guitar. There is a small repair on the pointy top of headstock wing (the glued on piece of mahogany on the headstock sides) – almost not visible. Other than that its in original condition and just an amazing sounding and playing instrument. Nicer 58-style neck with that 50s beef but not too chunky, just perfect! Comes incl. original brown Lifton case.
