Art.Nr. FE51ESQ-1334
1951 Fender Esquire with factory added pickup from Nacho’s collection. The original owner of this guitar played it in church for decades. He sent the guitar back to the factory in 1954 to have a neck pickup installed. So, the guitar comes with a factory original second-generation wiring, original 1954 neck pickup and 1954 white pickguard with some extra screw holes. Nacho Baños installed a repro black pickguard because he felt it looks better and is more historically correct for 1951 as a Blackguard (the white guard from 1954 is included in the case). There are no body/neck dates, which is not uncommon in the early days, but the original pots are February 1951. The original GOLD decal and closed shell tuners indicate early 1951 but the body has a diagonal route (this means post-Feb.51) so with 2/51 pots we feel this would be a spring model (April/May). The original finish also indicates that time frame. It was refretted years ago, both pickups have been lightly dipped in wax to avoid feedback noise, it comes with a large early style neck, and it feels super lightweight, so it has some of the best early Blackguard features, ready to gig. The back of neck is completely worn out and there’s some significant lower horn wear (from playing sitting down at church), and arm rest wear (the original owner probably had a very acid/corrosive sweat). It comes with original ashtray and original thermometer case.
