The ultimate GuitarPoint Murphy guitar… Murphy Painted – hand-painted by the man himself – an option that does not exist anymore, Gibson stopped doing this. Dark Burst – Tom Murphy’s take on a the darker Cherry Sunburst finish applied to some guitars in the late 50s. We think it’s a lot more authentic with a lot deeper color than the regular finishes. Murphy Lab Light Aged – the ultra thin and hard lacquer formula you only get with the aged option. But not overdone and artificial looking, real weather checking and subtle wear, just right. We know the originals and have real deal Bursts in the shop. We see and play them next to each other every day! We picked the maple tops for this 1958 Plaintop run in the factory in Nashville. We picked them by hand – not in the new “wood picking area”, no, right there in the factory between the machines. We picked them for TONE! Hard and heavy maple tops with straight grain. The outcome can’t be better. Guitars with that REAL vintage look and feel. Not super light, furthermore realistic weight like the Bursts we have here in our showroom.
