1971 Fender Telecaster – Olympic White

You wouldn’t believe how often we come across early 70s Telecasters in Olympic White. The thing is, 99% of the time, it’s actually Blond. Fender used relatively thick finishes during this period, and the Blond finish wasn’t as transparent as in earlier years. Once it yellowed, many people are mistaking it for „Olympic White“.

Luckily, it’s pretty easy to tell the difference: just check the neck pocket to see the bare wood. An ash body always means Blond—no exceptions. If it’s alder, then you know you’ve got something special. That’s the case with this guitar: a genuine custom color—Olympic White.

We picked this one up at the Dallas Guitar Festival, and we couldn’t be happier to have it in the shop. It’s not just rare; it’s also lightweight, with a dreamy neck that has a full, big, rounded profile. Plus, it sounds incredible. There’s something truly special about alder-bodied Teles.

The guitar shows some honest wear—which, incidentally, makes it easier to identify the wood species—and the pots and switch have had some solder work done. However, all the parts are original. The bridge pickup might have been wax-potted, and it has definitely been unsoldered (including the baseplate), but it still dates to 1971. Well, things happen over 54 years!

This is a killer guitar—rare and just amazing! It comes with the original case, too.
