1968 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop Crown Inlay

Art.Nr. GI68LPGT501726

This exact guitar has been pictured in Tony Bacon’s Les Paul book(s): One of the very first Les Pauls models made after Gibson stopped production in 1961… The legendary “crown inlay” 1968 Les Paul Standard Goldtop. All original and in excellent condition (besides there was some shielding foil glued under the backplate). Some minor play wear but overall very clean with nice darkened Goldtop finish. It’s a 501-series model with 1967 dated pots, shipped between June and August 1968. The typical features of those super are earliest versions are the ES-style “crown” inlay on the headstock (someone at the factory did a mistake and entered the ES-335 part-number for the headstock veneer!) and “Les Paul” engraved on the trussrod cover, mis-located strap button (Gibson installed the upper strap pin too high and corrected a few even in the factory). Of course one piece neck and body, small headstock, no volute. This guitar has a comfortable neck, not too big like some others from this period. Amazing addition to any serious Les Paul collection! Guitar has been refretted. Comes incl. original case.
