1960 Gibson Les Paul Special – Cherry

Technically the first guitar named “SG” in the Gibson price list: 1960 Gibson Les Paul-shaped Special Double Cut in excellent+ condition and all original. No breaks, no nothing or…everything. This is the later version which means a few months after the guitar was introduced in 1959 with the pickup directly at the end of the fretboard. Those guitars were great but the neck joint was as weak as it gets and the broke super easy. The first ones also had a different weird knob/switch placement which was soon corrected. Shortly after that Gibson changed the position of the neck pickup away from the fretboard to make the construction more stable. This is the final version of the Les Paul shaped Special, shortly before this design was discontinued in favor for the “devils horn” SG shape we all know. And it’s simply a magical instrument! The simplicity of the Junior paired with the flexibility of an additional pickup, basically all you need. The rich and open sound and the huge dynamic range of the P90 pickups show all the nuances between crispy clean and full throttle. The finish has faded a bit but especially the back is still Cherry red. The neck has the typical 1960 slimmer profile. Guitar comes incl. original Alligator case.
