The 1957 Stratocaster. The magical year. The year where everything was just right. In 1956 Fender changed the body wood for their Stratocasters from ash to alder. The body contours started to get really deep, pronounced belly and arm rest carvings – just smooth and ergonomic, very handy. The necks went from big round shapes to a big chunky V. 1957 may be the year many people would consider as the pinnacle of the maple neck era, especially since those V-shaped necks and the 2-tone sunburst finishes are the major specs most players and collectors are looking for. This went on until very early 1958 when Fender introduced the 3-tone Sunburst finish and a bit thinner C-shaped necks. The body contours slowly went to a less pronounced carving. What we have here is a wonderful example of a mid 1957 model, both, body and neck are dated July 1957. Perfect lightweight, V neck, a lot of play wear on the back, on the fretboard but otherwise relatively clean. Just right! The guitar is all original besides the bridge pickup has been restored by Andreas Kloppmann using the original wire and the tone pot may have been replaced with an original 1957 pot (it’s dated 2 weeks apart from the other two pots), the holes for the strings on the backplate have been widened a bit to make string changes easier. We don’t need to mention that this guitar feels and sounds just right… you can’t put it down. The frets are low and may need to be replaced. Comes in its original tweed case.
