Its been said there are less than 10 of these ever made! One of the great names in acoustic archtops: the Stromberg Master 400! Bigger and louder than anything else…nothing less was the approach. This 1952 example, serial number 563, comes in Blonde with its original hardshell case. The Master 400 was Stromberg’s flagship orchestral guitar. Its imposing 19-inch design belonged to an era when guitar makers pushed acoustic volume and projection to their limits. The model became closely associated with Freddie Green and the Count Basie Orchestra, where the guitar’s rhythmic presence helped define the sound of an entire band. Built in very small numbers in Boston, the Master 400 occupies a special place alongside the finest American archtops. This blonde example brings together the unmistakable appearance of Stromberg’s top model and a direct connection to the golden age of swing. The guitar comes from the Scott Chinery collection and is featured and pictured in the collection book on page 51! The D’armond floating pickup was added.
