1947 Gibson ES-300N – Natural
Beautiful and clean early 1947 Gibson ES-300 in excellent condition
This is a first-version, second-production-year Gibson ES-300 from early 1947, presented in outstanding original condition, except for the pickguard, which appears to have been repaired using original parts.
Introduced in 1946, the 17” body ES-300 features only a P-90 neck pickup. Only in 1946 did the model still sport the script Gibson logo before transitioning to the current style logo in 1947. This guitar has no FON number or serial, but the pots date to the 44th week of 1946. In 1948, Gibson updated the ES-300 to the second version, featuring two pickups and a different tailpiece. This guitar retains the F-hole tailpiece, which was only used during the first two production years!
The guitar showcases a beautifully figured maple body with a natural finish, highlighted by pronounced carving. There is some wear on the back that possibly resembles belt buckle wear, though it’s unclear if that’s the cause, some finish is missing in that typical area. Additionally, there is a repaired crack on the upper side and an added strap pin.
It still has the original Kluson tuners, which remain fully functional. The guitar offers great low action and features a substantial neck—truly an incredible piece of guitar history! Comes with a newer case.
