1936 Gibson L-7 – owned by Richard Gere
This 1936 Gibson L-7 was part of the Christie’s Auction of “The Richard Gere Guitar Collection” in 2011. It comes with Christies tag and is well documented on the Christies website. One of the earliest Gibson Archtop we’ve had in a while – besides the definitely worth mentioning Hollywood star bonus, the guitar is such a great sounding example of a time in history when none of the guitars we handle here all day did exist at all. The L-7 was introduced in 1933 and has a spruce top, 17“ size maple body (this none has some nice flames on the back) and a mahogany neck. Basically a more plain version of the L5 but still with beautiful inlays on the headstock and fretboard. There is a stable center seam crack around the tailpiece – which has also been mentioned in the original auction. Very nice all original and collectible guitar. Guitar comes incl. original case.
