1935 Gibson Super 400 – Cremona Sunburst
We’re thrilled to have this amazing guitar here in our shop: a first production year 1935 Gibson Super 400. Although there were some made in 1934, 1935 would be the first real production year with only around 90 guitars made. The Super 400 was the top-of-the-line guitar in the Gibson catalog and is still as impressive as on day one. With a price tag of $400 it would be a 10K guitar in the today’s money worth which made it a super expensive guitar especially back in 1935. This beautiful example is an incredible work of art with a great vibe and aura! The guitar is all original, original tailpiece, huge 18″ body with exceptional woods, flamed maple neck, open back tuners, Super-400 hand engraved heel cap, engraved Y-tailpiece, the original pickguard and 1935 serial number and FON number. It also has the slightly narrower upper bout that only the first models had, in 1936 the bout width increased to 13 5/8″. The guitar has an old headstock repair with a partial overspray and very likely a neck reset that also went along with some very minor overspray in the neck heel area. It’s a great playing guitar with loud voice. Really exceptional instrument and a great addition to any collection. Comes including original brown case.
