1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard "Pre-Historic" Reissue - Killertop
Amazing 1992 Les Paul 1959 Reissue with killer flamed maple top! This 1992 Gibson Les Paul in a true "pre-Historic" Reissue - not a Les Paul Classic Plus as most so-called Reissues are. It's already an improved spec 1992 model with more historically accurate features as earlier versions. In 1992 the Gibson Custom Shop didn't yet exist but customers already were asking for authentic reissues of the famous 58-60 Bursts for many many years. This is why Gibson actually came up with the Les Paul Classic model which has some nice upgrades to the normal Les Paul Standard, such as the ABR-style bridge mounted directly into the top. The "Plus" or "Premium Plus" models received highly figured maple tops but what all of them had in common was a "60s-style" thinner neck that became famous as the "slim taper profile". There was another guitar which was available in lower numbers and actually became the Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Reissue in 1993 - the "Les Paul 1959 Reissue" and this is one of them. The list price was $4199 compared to $1699 for a Classic. It has the "REISSUE" stamp in the bridge pickup cavity, it has a stunning AAAA-flamed maple top which was only available in the 90s and the serial number is confirmed by the Gibson serial logs to be a Les Paul Reissue. The weight is great with 4,08Kg - typically they're very heavy so this is just perfect. The pickups are 57 Classics, although the have been unsoldered and the covers have been off - they look a bit "brushed" so they might be not original to the guitar or artificially aged. We replaced the broken pickguard and cavity covers with period correct but new replacement parts. The stamp in the neck pickup cavity reads December 1992 - so it might be one of the last "pre-Historics" before the Custom Shop Historic Program was released in 1993. The back of the neck shows some wear, it has been played but it's in great shape. The pots are dated 1992. Great round neck profile and amazing tone. Comes in it's original brown Gibson case.
