In 2017 Gibson did 5 different shades of aged “Painted Over” finishes on 1958 Les Paul Reissues inspired by an original 1959 Les Paul that was finished Black over Gold in the factory back then. The outcome is unusual for sure and has a certain look to it – the finish comes through on different areas. Don’t take it too serious regarding vintage look or authenticity – they’re cool guitars by their own and sound and play killer!
