Early 1967 Fender Stratocaster in great condition! All original besides an added 5-way switch – the most common and probably the most accepted mod. Production started in late 1966 and was finished in 1967. The neck is dated September 1966, the pots of course as well. The pickups are a super cool mix of two black and one grey bottom, all three dated to January 1967. A perfect transition – the black bottom pickups re-appeared in 1967 and then later in 1973.
1967 was a particularly exciting year in Fender history. With offsets like the Jazzmaster and Jaguar prominent in the catalogue and the recently introduced Coronado series taking the company into hollowbody territory, Fender was exploring new directions. In 1967 the Stratocaster production was low – thats why they are super rare and sought after! That would change pretty quick: The Stratocaster was about to enter one of its most iconic chapters: that summer, Jimi Hendrix’s legendary performance at Monterey would help establish it as the defining guitar of a new generation. This early ’67 example comes from that fascinating moment in Fender history. Great sounding and playing example with just enough play wear to give it a broken in vintage appearance and feel! Comes incl. original case.
