Here we have the holy grail of the Gibson Electric Spanish Thinline models… the first year of the ES-335. The guitar is all original and in excellent condition. There are a few cracks in the laminate but only in the first layer (on the top right next to the center block, output jack and a small one on the back). This is more common than uncommon, especially on the thin 3-layer laminate models from 1958 – mid 1959. The thinner laminate models are a lot more sought after than later 5-layer versions and are often called “Burst-Killers” amongst musicians and collectors. Basically you’re getting a full-on Burst electronic and neck shape with the bigger maple 335 body. The neck has some worn areas on the lower side of the fretboard, likely from fingers, maybe a ring? but this doesn’t affect playability – it’s just something that belongs to the guitars history. Those early ES-335 guitars sound simply amazing – and this one is no exception. For sure of of the best guitars Gibson ever made. Big tone, sustain and wonderful PAF humbuckers. Great action and playability and great investment. The 58/59 ES-335 models are still increasing in value – no wonder since their solidbody sisters are at least 4-5 times higher in price already.
